Why is a Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Bond Required?

The bond guarantees compliance with the Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 138 and other Commission guidlines pertaining to alcoholic beverages. Bond violations include, but are not limited to, dilution or tampering with alcoholic beverages, employing or selling alcohol to underage persons, violation of fair trade laws, and price discrimination. Massachusetts Liquor License Bonds have a set expiration date of December 31st.

Alcoholic Beverage Bonds And Getting Your Massachusetts Business License/Registration

Those applying for a Wholesaler License pursuant to will need electronic copies of the documents listed below.

  • Alcohol & Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) License
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Facility Registration
  • Surety bond, sometimes referred to as an alcohol tax or excise tax bond bound unto the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the following amounts:
    • All Alcohol License $6,000
    • Wines and Malt License or Sacramental Wine $3,000
  • CORI Release Form for the liquor license manager
  • Proof of Citizenship for the liquor license manager
    • Any one of the following is acceptable: U.S. Passport, U.S. Passport Card, Birth Certificate, Voter Registration or Naturalization Papers
  • Floor plan of proposed premises
  • Occupancy documents showing right to store at the premises

To apply for for a Farmer Brewery license pursuant to M.G.L. c. 138, § 19C you will need electronic copies of the documents listed below.

Required Documents for all new Farmer Brewery, Winery or Distillery licenses:

  • Alcohol & Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) License [Brewer's Notice]
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Facility Registration
  • Surety Bond: sometimes referred to as an excise tax bond, entity must be bound unto the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for $3,000 for wineries and brewers, and $6,000 for distillers.
  • CORI Release Form for the liquor license manager.
  • Proof of Citizenship for the liquor license manager. Any one of the following is acceptable: US Passport, US Passport Card, Birth Certificate, Voter Registration or Naturalization Papers.
  • Floor Plan of proposed premises.

To apply for for a Manufacturer license, you will need electronic copies of the documents listed below.

  • Alcohol & Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) License
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Facility Registration
  • Surety Bond: sometimes referred to as the excise tax bond bound unto the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for $10,000.
  • CORI Release Form for the liquor license manager.
  • Proof of Citizenship for the liquor license manager. Any one of the following is acceptable: US Passport, US Passport Card, Birth Certificate, Voter Registration or Naturalization Papers.
  • Floor Plan of proposed premises.
